In probably one of the more outrageous announcements to come out of the mortgage crisis, Florida AG Pam – Barbie Girl – Bondi announced on Friday that the office was closing the investigation into “alleged” wrongdoing by foreclosure mills – with no findings.
“Accordingly, we have closed our law firm investigations and anticipate that any enforcement action will be up to the discretion of the Florida Bar,” Jennifer Meale, the communications director, said.
Back in May, Bondi fired to lead investigators, Theresa Edwards and June Clarkson, with what were essentially trumped uo charges of wrong doing. Here’s what they did:
… the duo were responsible for the only settlement reached in the foreclosure firm investigations: a $2 million agreement with the Fort Lauderdale-based law firm of Marshall C. Watson
And for that they were fired.
We’re supposed to believe that of the hundreds of thousands of foreclosures in Florida, that these two rogue investigators were the only ones able to find any mistakes or wrong doing in all Florida?
Hundreds of thousands of Florida homeowners have faced foreclosure since the housing market crashed and the economy crumbled. Such law firms as Shapiro & Fishman, and the Law Offices of David J. Stern in Plantation, were hired by lenders to push through cases.
Stern’s Plantation-based firm once had 1,400 employees and handled 100,000 foreclosures statewide. It closed in 2011 after it was fired by its largest clients following the state’s allegations of wrongdoing.
But the State AG could find no wrong doing after spending over a year investigating foreclosure mills?
