Scammers Polluting Foreclosure Defense Pool

There's enough scum floating in the foreclosure defense pool now to consider it a biofuel source.

Everyone should be allowed, and even encouraged, to make money. If you can turn a profit doing something, and it's not illegal, unethical or globally immoral, then by all means have at it. Part of the American dream is to be self-sufficient, a business owner, self-employed. It's part of why I created Stellionata. The other part, for me, is that I believe that I can help people and if I can “do well by doing good” then so much the better. Then there are others...

Recently, the West Virginia and New Hampshire Attorneys General issued separate warnings about a supposed law firm in Texas named Murray LLP. In the press releases, both AGs McGraw and Delaney warn that their offices “recently learned that a San Antonio, Texas, company called Murray LLP ran TV and Internet ads directing consumers to its website, www.bringaclaim.com to charge eligible borrowers a 20% fee to submit a one-page claim form in the National Mortgage Settlement.”

The reason this is on my radar, aside from the fact that pretty much everything foreclosure related grabs my attention, is that the ads began running on New Hampshire's two biggest TV stations over the weekend. WMUR TV was carrying bringaclaim.com ads on their website while WBIN TV chose to air the actual TV spot that can be seen on the "firm's" website. Now, as I said, I'm all for someone trying to make a buck, especially in this economy. But taking 20% of a lousy $2000 claim for filling out a one page form from someone who has already suffered the indignity of a fraudulent foreclosure and making it seem more “legitimate” is simply ...well... sleazy. Interestingly enough, though, as I write this, I received a message saying that WMUR-TV banned the ad from it's website. It's nice to see them realize the seriousness of this so quickly. Hopefully WBIN will come to a similar realization in short order.
